Using your new cardQuestions about Chip & PIN

Why might I still need to sign for purchases in certain countries?

It will take a while for chip and PIN to roll out globally, so you still might be asked to sign a sales voucher when using your card in some countries. But when you travel internationally, you will notice that more and more you will be asked to enter your PIN rather than sign for goods or services purchased with your card.

Why do I need a new PIN?

Because your old PIN number will not work with the technology of the chip embedded in your new card.

Can I change my new PIN?

No - currently the bank is unable to offer this service.

I'm visually impaired - can I still use my chip and PIN card?

Yes - most PIN pads are laid out like telephone pads with a raised dot on the '5'. There may also be different sounds to indicate when you have pressed a key.

What happens if I forget my PIN?

Phone the Debit Card Customer Services team in the Isle of Man during business hours on + 44 (0)1624 643643 and we will arrange for a PIN reminder to be sent to you.

What happens if I enter my PIN incorrectly when using my card?

As with using your card and PIN at an ATM at present, you are allowed three attempts to enter your PIN correctly. If you input your PIN incorrectly three times, your PIN will be blocked and you will not be able to use it for 24 hours. If you cannot remember your PIN then you will need to contact the Debit Card Customer Services Team (number above), who will send you out a PIN reminder.

What happens if my card is lost or stolen?

The loss or theft of your card should be reported as soon as possible to the Debit Card Customer Service team on + 44 (0)1624 643643 during business hours or + 44 (0)1624 643664 out of business hours. We will block your card and send you out a replacement card and PIN.

How will these changes affect any additional cardholders on my account?

Additional cardholders on your account will also receive new cards with chip and PIN technology, but they will have their own PIN.
